Soldier Database

  • Soldier

You can search on the soldier’s entire name or enter a partial name to  receive a list of suggested matches. Names are presented in the format:

Last Name First Name Middle Name (or initials)

  • Company

The 6th PA HA included both Batteries and Companies, based upon whether the unit was an artillery unit or was assigned to an infantry unit. You can view a list of everyone assigned to a particular unit by selecting the unit as the Search Type and then clicking on the SEARCH button without entering a name.

  • Entire Unit

If you are unable to locate a soldier, or perhaps are looking for family relationships such as brothers in different units, you may wish to review the list of everyone by selecting View All as the Search Type and then clicking on the SEARCH button.

The Roster of Soldiers was transcribed from Samuel P. Bates’ History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861-1865. If you are unable to locate a soldier, it may be that it was spelled differently in Bates’ History. Try your search using just a partial name or a variation of the name, for example try searching for McDaniel instead of MacDaniel, or by viewing the entire list of soldiers.
